Community Involvement/Service

State contact: Mrs. Vincent (Debbie) Vail, 6 DeForest Lane, LaGrangeville, NY  12540
Telephone:  (845)724-5417  dvvail@aol.com

Workshop:  Salisbury Grange Hall, April 26, 7:30 PM,

Goal:  To make local Granges a more vital and viable part of their communities, by encouraging projects and events that are worthwhile, fill a community need and make the best use of the interests and abilities of the members.

Projects

1.  Creating Community Connections Handbook-This handbook has the tools to help a Grange plan and execute projects through steps that help assess the member's interests and abilities and the community's needs.  Introduction packets can be ordered from State Grange that will provide a profile of the local Grange to be used to help introduce the Grange and its mission to community and other group leaders.  Guides for planning, publicizing and evaluating the events are included.  Using this book Granges should plan a new community event and in the second year plan an event or project to involve a school.

2.  Holiday & Festivities - This is an outline of 15 holiday or seasonal events, that can be adapted by a Grange to their local community.  The Grange can work with other groups or develop their own event.

3.Grange Pride - This is a series of suggestions to encourage Granges to show their pride by a special event or by incorporating ideas into already existing activities.

Award Program

The National Grange provides cash prizes for the best community service reports submitted in each state.  Judging is done by the State Grange in New York State prizes are given for first, second, third and honorable mention.  The New York State Grange also has categories based on the number of members in the Grange:  1-40 members, 41-70 members and 71 and over members.  National Grange will only provide prize money if 10%Granges in the state participate in the program.
